2022 Brut Nature is 50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir, a blend of fruit from several of our high elevation and cool climate vineyard sites used for sparkling wine: Cougar Rock Vineyard on Atlas Peak, Manchester Ridge, Home Vineyard on Sonoma Coast and several sites within the Anderson Valley. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were pressed into neutral barrel for aging, and after Tirage bottling, the wine aged on lees for 18 months. Zero dosage was added after disgorgement.
Our Brut Nature is lively and energetic. Flavors are tightly wound with a rich core of acidity. The palate is rich and powerful, with strawberry with citrus with dense bubbles. The palate is rich and powerful, and strawberry with citrus with dense bubbles. Toasted macadamia, delicate hard spice and baked apple cake create a complex nose that is early in its life.
The 2022 vintage was a season illed with curveballs. On the Sonoma Coast, the growing season began with ideal weather conditions through early summer, until an extended heat event beginning in late August accelerated the harvest and reduced yields for our Pinot Noir. For many California wine regions, this was a tale of two harvests, as a Labor Day heat wave divided the season into earlier and later picks. 2022 was an excellent vintage that made wines with beautiful intensity and great structure.
The fruit for the 2022 Brut Nature is a several single vineyard sites that we work with throughout Sonoma Coast, Anderson Valley, Napa Valley and Mendocino Ridge AVAs. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the high elevation (1400-2000 feet) sites of Cougar Rock Vineyard on Atlas Peak, and Manchester Ridge Vineyard on Mendocino Ridge are the backbone to the wine, rounded out with fruit from the organic West Block and Home Vineyard in Sonoma Coast, and Deep End sites in Anderson Valley.
